As per November 2004 the male nurse from Sonthofen (Bavaria) confessed to 16 killings of elderly patients with injections of tranquilizers and relaxants. In one of the cases Stephan LETTER (25) allegedly tried to kill a man with a cocktail of drugs and when the patient survived the attack, the nurse repeated his attempt three days later, this time with a letal dose.
Such a “death angel” case is unique in Germany. Stephan LETTER immediately confessed to 10 homicides “for mercy” after his arrest in July 2004. He could recall the name of every victim.
During the investigation he confessed to two more killings and recently to four more. Forensic experts investigate at least 80 suspicious deaths from beginning of 2003 to mid 2004, which occured during LETTER’s working hours in the Sonthofen Hospital. According to District Attorney, there may be more victims.
Stephan LETTER was arrested after hospital personal informed Police about missing drugs.
