During summer 1975 the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Ann Arbor (MI) was the scene of a high death rate. Up to 40 patients had died from an inexplicable respiratory failure. Since the hospital was a governmental facility, the FBI led the investigations and could confirm by August, that eight men had died from unnatural causes.
The investigator warned the hospital management that an angel of death was obviously killing patents with a muscle relaxant drug from Curare, Pavulon.
The investigations took several months and two nurses from the Philippines came under suspicion, Lenora PEREZ (31) and Filipina NARCISO (30) – both had been on duty when the suspicious deaths occured. Relatives of the victims confirmed, that the nurses had been around each time the patients in question were stricken.
However there was not enough evidence for convictions, even when the FBI – especially in the case against NARCISO – fought with all the guns.
The judge vacated the murder charge against PEREZ. After a trial of thirteen weeks of against NARCISO both women had been convicted of conspiracy and poisoning. After an appeal all charges were dismissed – and the murders remained unsolved.
