For more than a decade, Juan Martin Cantu lived with his wife in a ramshackle house near the Gulf Coast of Texas and worked odd jobs. On the side this model neighbor had a life as a hit man. The truth came out after Cantu was arrested on a charge of felony marijuana possession. During his interrogation, he admitted he had served time in Texas and Mexican prisons and that he also was responsible for 26 murders for which he had never been charged, precinct Deputy Constable George Gavito said. „I asked him, ‚Do you get off on this, get a joy from it?‘ And he smiles and he tells me, ‚You know, it gives me a thrill,“ Gavito said.
Cantu, jailed under the name Juan Martin Medrano, has a criminal record in Texas that dates to at least 1974, when he was convicted of burglary. After at least two more felony convictions for lesser offenses, he confessed in 1978 to six slayings, Gavito said. He was transferred to a Mexican prison under the terms of a 1970s treaty that allows foreign nationals to transfer to facilities in their home countries, but he was released four years later, police said. He had been living in Laguna Heights since at least 1991.
Cantu, 46, grew up the son of a poor rancher in the small Mexican state of Morelos. His first victim apparently had threatened his brother. By 17, he had become a contract killer, Gavito said. „He sat down with me and he told me that he started to kill people when he was 14,“ Gavito said.
Gavito said Cantu placed the unsolved murders in several Mexican cities: Vera Cruz, Ciudad Juarez and Matamoros. He also said he killed people in Brownsville, Houston and Dallas; in Naples and Jacksonville, Fla.; and in Alabama. Investigator Lt. Joe Garcia said Cantu had been a known hit man for drug kingpin Cacho Espinosa.

Journalists in the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez have set up a website to draw international attention to the unsolved murders of hundreds of women. Journalists for the periodical El Norte have published articles on the website criticising various aspects of the investigation.

Appeals for information have so far failed to produce many leads. One of the journalists, Antonio Flores accused the authorities of „terrible negligence“, Spanish news agency Efe reported.
Drug-related killings and sex slavery are among the lines of investigation being pursued. In November 2003, more remains were found in the northern border town. But the opposition has blamed President Vicente Fox’s government for not doing more to stem the killings.

60 people went missing in the year of 1989 in Mexico. But one grabbed their attention, he was a young man from a rich family and the family put a bounty on the kidnappers head or a reward for his safe return. But no one provided any information. At the same time, police were looking at a big „anti-drug campaign“ and looking at major drug lords etc. A few were caught and two in particular were brought into custody but unable to be kept due to lack of evidence. They ranted and raved about being protected by some higher power. They were part of a witch, black magic cult they said and were protected by the master. This master was quickly identified and rumours began to hit their ears. He was said to kill people as part of the rituals and use their deaths as part of his power and magic. They were led to one of the occults grave yards and very loosely buried were 12 bodies, all men, killed in various ways. Police then tracked down one of the places these people practiced and Constanzo was identified as being the „God“ of them all. There at the ranch they found pots with creepy crawlies in them, skulls, sticks and other magic tools enabling them to speak to the afterlife. They realised they were dealing with a madman then, especially when they found corpses without brains and then found the brains at the ranch! But where was Constanza? Constanza’s family were into this magic before he was even born. When he was born he was quickly made involved in his fathers practices. His mother sacraficed animals and anyone who didnt agree with her often found a goats head on their door step. Following his mothers criminal past, Constanzo dropped out of school and started on petty crime. His God father then came into his life and taught him more on the black arts and his God father was also visited a lot by drug dealers wanting his protection spells. The God father would tell Constanza to not help them as he would profit from their foolishness after they killed themselves from the drugs they took. Constanza was later predicting future events to his mothers thrill, and was labelled as a man that could tell the future with frightening accuracy. Soon Constanza was arrested and later when out he declared he would be a man of evil and worship his own satan. He claimed he had no soul. He soon had a following of course and business boomed. Constanza would make money from spells and sacrifice anything from roosters to lion cubs. His fans were increasing by the day and he soon became very rich and very powerful. Drug lords were using him regularly and paying him well. Constanza would not do what they asked though, he remembered his God fathers wise words. He was arranging shipments and providing so called magical safety for the shipments. Constanza would rip raids off and sell them himself for loads of cash. He could afford anything he wanted and loved it when law enforcement members started calling him a God. It is not clear on when he started or how he started but he did move on to sacrificing humans to his own Gods. 23 have been recorded but the actual figure of how many were used is unknown. A huge number of unexplained murders at the time have to be solved and many can be linked to him but without finer evidence. Many men that defied Constanza wound up dead. Sometimes whole families, found with fingers, toes, organs removed or sometimes their body parts ripped out of them! Men were found on the streets for children to see. He flaunted his power all over the place and feared by many. He claimed his God’s got more excited by loud murders, the victims must scream while dying. That explained many mutilations that were found. No words can explain the power this man had. Killing after killing, he was just not satisfied anymore by many of the victims brought forward. Then one of his disciples brought in the rich little boy from the well established family. After he killed this boy, everything went bad. He didnt get paid for his last drug shipment, people of his were arrested and the police were hot on his tail. So he… dissappeared. Police raided the place he was last seen and it was if he was never there. Like… magic Police burnt and exorcised his ranch, they blessed it and burned it to the ground. Constanza was enraged but what could he do? More of his men were arrested and spilling the beans on everything, Constanza’s time was running out. Policed moved in as Constanza was in his last hide out with some of his men. They thought of a plan that didnt work out and finally they just started shooting at police, when the police shot back they felf helpless and Constanza demanded that his friend shoot him, and that he did. The man that shot him was proud, he said Constanza would be back from the dead. The remaining cult members were quickly arrested. With it came a huge list of murders, including that of the little boy they were looking for. 74 unsolved murdrers, 14 were infants! The problem is they knew that Constanzo did not do all of those murders due to location etc… so someone is still out there, killing in a similar fashion but its unknown if its for the same cause.

When he was arrested in October, 1995, Abel, a Egyptian national, was suspected of being the dreaded „Depredador Psicópata“ of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. He has been charged with killing five girls and abandoning their bodies in the desert of Chihuahua. Abel was arrested after authorities established links between him and five dead girls he met at nightclubs. A sexual criminal with an extensive rap sheet spanning from Miami to Texas, Sharif said that he is not the dreaded „Depredador.“ As the body count continues rising at a rapid pace, it’s become obvious that Abel was not the only one slaughtering girls in Ciudad Juarez.
In custody Sharif allegedly confessed to five of the killings. In public he has maintained his innocence since he was first arrested and accused of being a serial killer in 1995. In a jailhouse interview Sharif said, „I am innocent, they are pinning this all on me because I am a foreigner… I’m just a drunk, I’m not a murderer.“ In 1996 a judge dismissed six murder charges against him. That same day, prosecutors filed new charges, accusing him of the murder of another woman, and was thrown back in jail.
On March 3, 1999, the former chemist was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of raping and murdering 18-year-old Elizabeth Castro Garcia in 1994. „He will be charged with other cases because we have reason to believe he was author to those as well,“ said Nahum Najera, assistant state attorney general in Chihuahua state. Authorities still suspect him of 17 more murders.
