ANDRADE’s killings ended, when he fell in love with one of his victims so passionately, that he was not able to kill him. 10 year old Altair de ABREU told stunning police officers the incredible story of the murder and rape of his 6-year old brother Ivan.
“A man named Marcelo talked to us at a bus station and persuaded us to help him lighten candles for a saint. Heading towards a church he suddenly stopped when bypassing a vacant lot, turned on Ivan and started strangling him. I was so paralyzed with fear that I could not run away, just had to watch as this man killed and then raped my brother. When he was finished with Ivan, he turned to me, hugged me and told me, how much he loves me.”
After Altair agreed upon spending the night with de ANDRADE, he managed to run away – directly to the next police station.

When police arrived at the office, where de ANDRADE lived, he was very calm and immediately confessed to Ivan’s murder. It took months before he also talked about the other homicides.
de ANDRADE made a fragile impression to the investigators, and their blood froze, when he talked about the killings with a quiet, soft voice.

de ANDRADE told police, he preferred young boys, because they were so beautiful and had such soft skin. A priest told him, that children go directly to heaven when killed before aged 13. So he thought to do them a favour, sending them directly to heaven.
de ANDRADE further confessed, he cut off some of his victims heads with a machete, he borrowed from his mother, to drink their spurting blood.

de ANDRADE stays in an psychiatric asylum today.

The 50.000 inhabitants of Lysva never had a clue about who Bratislav really was. No one would suspect him. He’s the son of a prosperous working-manager who, ironically, promised a reward to anyone who could give any information about the case. Bratislav’s brother is a member of the Russian civil army, the militia. Vladimir sometimes went along when his brother and other policemen searched for the serial killer.

In Lysva, there’s only in two places some amusement to find: the Poesjkinpark and the local nightclub. That was the hunting ground of the serial killer. There he looked out for attractive women which he unanimously called whores. Psychiatrists think his atrocities were fed by a humiliating sexual experience in his teenage years. When he was fourteen, an older woman rejected him. He couldn’t maintain an erection; he failed. That would be the cause.

In March 1997, he raped and killed his first victim in a way that’s too horrifying for words. After the first murder, Bratislav went to see a priest, but this one wouldn‘ t listen to him, although he really regretted the killing. Bratislav then figured that, if even a priest wasn’t interested, how would anyone else be? He assumed that he couldn’t expect any help from anyone. Although Bratislav felt guilty after that first murder, it didn’t take long to kill again. Hardly one week later, he struck again. This time his victim was a woman who was jogging in the park, early in the morning. First, he raped her, he beat her up and bit in her breasts before he eventually strangled her.

Bratislav tries to minimalize his own share in the murders. He claims that he only wanted to rob his victims from their jewelry, but that he killed them once they saw his face. He doesn’t know how to explain the fact why he didn’t sell those jewels then. He claims he raped and mutilated them to distract the police. And their eyes he removed to be certain they’d never recognize him. He raped and killed only those women who wouldn’t cooperate. His file says that Bratislav attempted to murder six women and that he effectively killed ten women. Bratislav himself claims he killed much more. He estimates he murdered more than thirty times.

His fourth victim, Elena Lyzhina, made the ‚mistake‘ to look at Bratislav. The night of July 28th, 1997, he waited for her, he raped her, and he cut the eye loose from the optic nerve that runs from the eye to the brain. Miraculously, the woman survived this horrible attack, but she’s permanently blind.

August 4th, he waited for Olga Kosenko when she left Lysva’s nightclub early in the morning. She was found raped and strangled. His next two victims were women he knew. August 17th, he attacked the 18 years old Anna Maraku-lina from behind until he realized that he knew her. At first, he tried to make his attack look as a joke, but she didn’t believe him. He raped her and hit her on the head until the girl died. Five days later, he killed another girl he knew, the 17 years old Maria Shetsova. He waited for her outside the club, suggested to go for a walk with her. In the Poesjkinpark, he overwhelmed and stran-gled her. He bit and chewed on her breasts and pushed a wooden stick into her mouth. One week later, Alvira Kanzeparova was walking to the club when Bratislav attacked her. He raped and strangled her, and he put out her eyes. Once he said: „I put out their eyes because they wouldn’t stare at me anymore. Is that so weird?“ The only woman who escapes from his universal misogynism, is his mother. He says that she’s the example of an honorable, virtuous woman.

Natalya Mezentseva made the catching of Bratislav happen. June 10th, 1998, he attacked her, but in-stead of killing her, he only took her purse, and ran off. Natalya recognized him, and called the militia. At first, they thought it had been nothing more than an drug addict who needed money, but a couple of days later, another woman was assaulted in the park. She was severely beaten up. When Natalya drove with some police officers around the park, she saw him, and he got arrested. At the time, he’s serving a life sentence. He says he’s lonely, but still, he doesn’t regret any of his crimes. This man doesn’t have any feeling, any morality.

In December 30, 1977, after a previous failed attempt, Ted escaped prison in Colorado and relocated in Tallahassee, Florida, near Florida State University. There he perpetrated his blood-soaked „Guernica“ of crime. In January 15, 1978, he set forth on a night of butchery and killed two girls and wounded two others in an around the Chi Omega sorority house in Tallahassee. Two weeks later he stole a van and killed 12-year-old Kimberly Leach in Lake City, Florida, for which, eventually, he was fried. Poor Kimberly’s body was found in a pig trough next to a plaid jacket that was not Ted’s. She was buried in a cemetery near a Purina plant under a heart-shaped tombstone with her picture on it.
Ted defended himself in trials in Utah, Colorado and Florida as the police tried to put together a trail of dead girls leading to him. During his various trials, a very self-possessed Ted Bundy defended himself garnishing praise and a legion of female admirers. After numerous appeals Bundy was electrocuted by the state of Florida in 1989. For his last meal he had steak, eggs, hash browns and coffee.

The best place to begin the tale is with the last slaying. On September 18, 1981, Anthony Cook assaulted Todd Sabo and Leslie Sawicki completely out of the blue while the pair sat in a van in an apartment complex parking lot. While Sabo fought with Anthony Cook, Sawicki escaped and telephoned police and also her father, Peter Sawicki. Unfortunately, Peter Sawicki arrived on the scene first and was shot dead by Anthony Cook. Sabo was shot in the neck and shoulder but survived.

Anthony Cook was arrested for the attack and sentenced to fifteen years to life in prison. He had been locked up ever since, just another one of the many murderers in our nation’s prison system. Having long suspected he and Nathaniel may be responsible for other homicides, authorities in 1997 decided to compare the brothers‘ DNA to some of past crimes. They soon found a match with the murder of Tom Gordon, 24, and the rape and attempted murder of Gordon’s girlfriend on May 14, 1980. The Cook brothers confronted the couple while they were sitting in a car and forced them into the backseat, driving them to a secluded area and shooting Gordon dead. The girl was raped by both brothers and stabbed repeatedly with an ice pick. She was left for dead but did survive the horrible ordeal.

Arrested for the murder of Gordon and the crimes against the unnamed girlfriend and under close scrutiny in many other slayings and attacks, the murderous siblings decided to cut a deal. Anthony Cook agreed to another term of fifteen years to life for the murder of Gordon while Nathaniel received twenty to seventy-five years in prison for the attempted murder of the girlfiend and the brothers confessed to a startling string of killings and attempted murders over an eight year period spanning for 1973 through 1981.

The spree began with Anthony Cook working as a solo act. On December 20, 1973, 22-year-old Vicki Small and some friends had car trouble and Anthony Cook, posing as a helpful citizen, gave Small a lift. She was found raped and shot to death later in the day.

Soon after Small’s killing, Anthony Cook went to prison until 1979 on an unrelated robbery conviction but after his release resumed his killing with a vengeance. Now teamed with brother Nathaniel, he picked up hitchhiker Connie Thompson, 19 on January 17, 1981. Both brothers raped Thompson until they tired of her, killed her, and dumped her violated body in a culvert. Just ten days later they struck again, forcing a young couple into a vacant garage where they were both shot but survived. Then on February 21 they abducted Dawn Backes, 12, on her way home from school and took her to an abandoned building where she was tortured, raped, and then bludgeoned to death with a concrete block.

After the Backes slaying Anthony Cook went solo once again. On March 27, 1981, he shot dead Scott Moulton, 21, and Denise Siotkowski, 22. On August 2 he abducted Daryl Cole, 21, and Stacey Balonek, 21. They were later found in the trunk of Cole’s car, beaten to death with a baseball bat. Siotkowski and Balonek had both been sexually assaulted. The next month Anthony Cook was arrested for Peter Sawicki’s murder and the killings were finally over.
